Chimney-shaped galleries protrude from Exploratorium museum by Bernard Tschumi
Bernard Tschumi Architects has completed the Exploratorium museum in China, which has giant industrial chimney-shaped exhibition spaces protruding from its perforated copper coloured exterior.
Due to open in Autumn of this year, the 33,000 square meter museum is located in Tianjin, and is designed by Bernard Tschumi Architects to showcase the port city's industrial past.
Tower Fifth supertall skyscraper proposed for Midtown Manhattan
New York City developer Harry Macklowe and global architecture firm Gensler have proposed a 96-storey office tower in Midtown Manhattan, which could become the city's tallest skyscraper by roof height.
Details of the proposal, named Tower Fifth, were acquired by the New York Times last week when Macklowe submitted the preliminary application to the Department of City Planning.
The developer – who was behind Rafael Viñoly's 432 Park Avenue – has enlisted Gensler to lead the design, while local practice Adamson Associates Architects will serve as the architect of record.
Spinn Arkitekter completes wooden hiking cabin on Norwegian mountain
A wooden cabin with a prefabricated honeycomb-like structure, called Varden, has opened on Storfjellet mountain in Norway.
Spinn Arkitekter designed the shelter, which exists to encourage hiking in the mountains surrounding the town of Hammerfest, for the Norwegian Trekking Association.
It has an "organic" prefabricated framework, developed in collaboration with Format Engineers to echo its rugged arctic setting, while withstanding harsh polar winters.
